An overview of this role The Observability, Monitoring, and Integrations team sits within GitLab's Monetization section. As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Monetization Platform Integrations team, you'll design, build, and maintain the integrations that connect CustomersDot and Monetization services to GitLab's enterprise applications, including Salesforce and Workato. You'll own robust application programming interface (API) contracts, protect data integrity across systems, and build resilient cross-platform workflows that underpin how customers buy, provision, and renew GitLab. Because these integrations move financial and subscription data between systems, you'll hold a high bar for reliability, observability, and careful rollout. You'll work closely with the monitoring and anomaly detection side of the team so that every integration is observable and failures are caught early. This role is opening at the Senior Backend Engineer level. Some examples of our projects: API contracts between Monetization services and enterprise applications such as Salesforce, Workato, and Zuora Event-driven integrations using webhooks and message-based patterns Resilient synchronization workflows with retries, idempotency, and clear error handling Reconciliation and data integrity checks across integrated financial and subscription systems What you’ll do Design, build, and maintain integrations between CustomersDot, Monetization services, and enterprise applications such as Salesforce, Workato, and Zuora. Define and evolve REST and GraphQL API contracts, including versioning and backward compatibility. Build observable, fault-tolerant integration workflows, and track error rates, retry success, and failed-workflow recovery to improve reliability. Ensure data integrity and consistency across integrated financial and subscription systems. Review and offer feedback on merge requests from other Monetization engineers. Collaborate with Product, Finance, IT, Sales, and Support to translate cross-system needs into reliable integrations. What you’ll bring Professional experience working in Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL or similar relational databases in production environments. Experience integrating with third-party or enterprise APIs and designing REST and GraphQL contracts, including versioning and backward compatibility. Familiarity with event-driven patterns such as webhooks and message-based streaming. Experience with data integrity and governance concepts. Curiosity to understand how systems work as a whole and experience owning a project from concept to production, including proposal, discussion, execution, and monitoring. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely about complex technical, architectural, and organizational problems, including in written and verbal English in a remote, largely asynchronous environment. Ability to collaborate effectively in a remote, largely asynchronous environment. Experience with NATS JetStream or subscription management or billing systems, such as Zuora or Salesforce, is a plus. About the team We partner with Sales, Finance, IT, and Support to deliver secure and reliable purchasing, billing, provisioning, and utilization workflows. The Monetization section includes the Purchase, Subscription Lifecycle, Billing Engine, Platform and Infrastructure, Observability, Monitoring, and Integrations, and Compliance teams. This role is on the Monetization Platform Integrations team and reports to the Engineering Manager, Observability, Monitoring, and Integrations. We operate with a strong asynchronous culture, regular planning and retrospectives, and a high bar for operational ownership across deployments, incident management, testing, and rollout safety.
